Follow scholar, author, historian, and lecturer, Dr. Runoko Rashidi as he journeys around the globe uncovering the African Presence in Europe, Asia, North & South America, in addition to clarifying misconceptions about Africa, its history and peoples.
Dr. Runoko Rashidi presents, revealing stories, characters and historical truths often hidden in plain sight, sharing fascinating and intriguing tales in some of the world’s most recognizable places as well as off the beaten path.
Each episode of the series presents a different interpretation of much of the history we think we already know as seen through the eyes of globe-trotting Rashidi. This real-life Indiana Jones has dedicated his life to unearthing the Global African Presence from Egypt to Timbuktu, from Ghana to Brazil, from Morocco to Madrid, from London and Paris to Washington, DC. and all stops in between; interpreting for the viewer the meaning of this hidden treasure of knowledge, and in the process, just maybe changing minds by changing perceptions.
Travels with Runoko embarks on journeys of discovery from his stateside studio to far flung locations around the globe. We see characters from the past come to life through reenactments. We see stories of heroism and betrayal, of love and loss, of legend and myth; we see that what you think you know about Western Civilization turned on its head.
We examine artifacts, ruins, visit museums and galleries and see what the world was like at the time when the objects were created or the edifices constructed. We see history come alive. We see how African influences show up in Art, Architecture, Music, Literature, Language and all manner of cultural influences big and small, on a global scale.
