BLACK LEGENDS ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN

Shamack Entertainment, Harold Melvin Estate, and Teamwork Media Group International Present

To Be True: The Story of Harold James Melvin The Entertainer

A  future documentary on an entertainer and vocal artist who saw and managed the good, the bad and the ugly of his group and band members

TO BE TRUE: The Story Of Harold James Melvin

FILM CONCEPT

Harold James Melvin of the Harold James And The Blue Notes super R&B group, was an ‘Entertainer’s Entertainer.’ In a made for TV documentary, the soul of this man is revealed and his indelible mark is stamped in the history books of the American R&B entertainment industry.

Harold Melvin was one of the pioneers of the Philly Sound which now epitomizes the mid-Seventies.

Under his guidance, the Blue Notes, a vocal group also boasting at the time the talents of Teddy Pendergrass, had several worldwide hits like "If You Don't Know Me By Now", "The Love I Lost", "Wake Up Everybody" and "Don't Leave Me This Way". But Melvin had been involved in music from a much earlier age and was still singing until a paralysing stroke put him in hospital.

You will discover this powerhouse from Philly through his showmanship, his unselfleshness in coaching and supporting new stars; his preparation of acts so his audiences’ would not only enjoy his shows, but walk away from them with an experience.

First-hand knowledge, interviews and footage of his life and performances bring you upfront and personal with his amazing life.

Sound bites, statements and clips of John Legend, Puffy Combs, Usher, Arsenio Hall, Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, just to name a few, will be shown as they recognize his work and attest to his contributions to keep the sound of mid-Seventies America alive.

Viewers will remember and be reintroduced to the music coming out of that period, like the Philly Sound which ruled ‘discotheques’ the world over.  And they will see and learn what he did to keep the Philadelphia Sound reverberating around the world.

Moreover, the viewing audience will get a perspective of this entertainer as a teacher and a star maker.  You’ll see the vision of his work manifested in rising stars like Teddy Pendergrass and Sharon Page who he set on a path to stardom.
